Pride with Purpose

A Two-Day Training Event for LGBTIQA+ Communities and Allies in Melbourne’s West!

It's that time of the year again - Pride Month is coming up in June! And what better way to celebrate it than by taking part in an event that aims to promote inclusion and diversity within the LGBTIQA+ community?

Pride with Purpose is a 2-day training event for LGBTIQA+ communities and allies to build their capacity in promoting inclusion and diversity. Support by Hobson Bay City Council through the Make It Happen Grants program, the goal of the project is to build the capacity of community advocates and emerging leaders who want to drive positive change for LGBTIQA+ communities, while also engaging the non-queer community to become more effective allies.

Pride with Purpose will consist of a series of workshops that will support LGBTIQA+ advocates and allies in their leadership and advocacy goals. The event will focus on storytelling as an advocacy tool and sustainable leadership and self-care as essential components of effective leadership and advocacy.

Pride with Purpose will be delivered over two separate events, with a specific target audience for each training day as follows:

🌈 DAY 1 - 14 June

The first day of the event, June 14th, is aimed at LGBTIQA+ community advocates, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) leads, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), emerging leaders, and change-makers. This event is for individuals who have some level of experience or interest in advocacy related to LGBTIQA+ rights and inclusion. It is intended to support LGBTIQA+ change-makers who want to learn more about becoming effective spokespersons and leaders to drive change. Participants will cover the following topics:

  • Story of Self - The Importance of Storytelling as an Advocacy Tool

  • Acts of Sustainable Leadership

🌈 DAY 2 - 21 June

On June 21st, the second day of the event, we will run our 101-style awareness and inclusion workshop called Working with the Rainbow Community - A Starter Kit. This workshop is for organisations and businesses who have little to no knowledge of the LGBTIQA+ community and want to gain a foundational understanding of this community to build allyship and create a more welcoming, positive, and inclusive workplace culture.

There will be two 2 ½ hour sessions on this day and participants choose either the morning or the afternoon session.

All of this is happening during Pride Month, a time when the LGBTIQA+ community comes together to celebrate its diversity and raise awareness of the issues that are important. So if you want to be part of this celebration and learn how to create positive change within your community, join us for Pride with Purpose!
